October 1, 2008

The most important event on October 1st is the law that establish smoking ban that took place October 1, 2007. The statewide smoking ban passed by the 2007 Minnesota Legislature forbids smoking in most non-residential buildings and all places of employment, bars and new vehicle dealerships too. The ban means no smoking in private offices, customer waiting areas and employee. Some businesses allow smoking outdoors, but towns and municipalities may pas an ordinance to ban outdoor smoking as well. From October 1, 2007 in Minnesota there will be no more smoking in public places and many other places too. This will hopefully make Minnesota’s environment a better place and the people in Minnesota will be safer to.

Thanks to Mr. Gunderson’s 6th grade class at Virginia-Roosevelt Elementary School for the research on October’s Day in History.

Thanks also to Minnesota’s Learn and Serve America Service Learning Program for their help.
