All Star Baseball Game & MN 150 Celebration

July 10, 2008

July 22 is the date of the big American Association’s All Star Baseball Game. The Saint Paul Saints will present the 2008 American Association All-Star Game in partnership with Medica. Minnesota’s 150 years of statehood will be featured as the theme of this 2-day event. The All-Star Game will celebrate 150 years of statehood and 150 years of baseball while highlighting today’s best and brightest stars of the American Association.

This game will be for the first time ever the umpires will use instant replay in professional baseball for the first time ever. Umpires will review decisions using video replay, which will be streamed to a mobile phone kept in umpire crew chief’s pocket, giving him immediate access to the play from his position on the field. The umpire will be able to control the video – functions such as rewind, fast forward and pause – from his phone using Slingbox technology.

Golf great Bobby Jones plays a round at the Interlachen Country Club in Edina on the first day of the U.S. Open Championship. At the end of the two-day tournament, he wins the title for the fourth time.

Thanks to Juliana James’ 4th Grade Class at Frost Lake Magnet School part of St Paul Public Schools for the research on January’s Day in History.

Thanks also to Minnesota’s Learn and Serve America Service Learning Program for their help.
