Jacob V. Brower was born in York, Michigan. After moving to Minnesota in 1860, he would maintain the headwaters of the Mississippi River. He passed away in 1905.

A blizzard strikes western Minnesota. Between 100 and 150 deaths are caused by the blizzard. Many of these were children returning home from school.
